Most of us would have seen those little remote controlled aircrafts on TV - tearing up and down the skies, speeding across, sometimes doing dangerous loops and turns or even flying inverted at times. It is quite fascinating to watch these little toys perform aerobatics with their noisy engines screeching and screaming in the sky. Most of us wish that we could be flying aeromodels like those, but just sigh - It's not for me. It happens only in rich developed countries abroad. Can I afford to make these aeromodels and do I have the right skills? Friends, you will be pleasantly surprised to know that aeromodelling opportunities are available right, it is not as difficult as you might think.
Most people are just not aware of this hobby of aeromodelling while a few enthusiasts might have had initial failures. Others might have been put off by the heavy price tags of foreign models sometimes seen in expensive shops. Aeromodelling is the art of making miniature aircraft models that look and fly like real aircrafts. It is a combination of craft, a bit of engineering expertise, coupled with creative imagination, which produces "Those men and their magnificent flying machines". To get started you need to get a proper orientation; then you can read on further, experiment yourself and get some tips of the "do's and don'ts" from me or other aeromodellers. Very soon you would be into aeromodelling proper.
In the following web pages I have described the different types of aeromodels, under two broad categories static models & flying models and how to make them. I have described the materials used, some standard techniques and an approximate cost estimate. Interested people may contact me directly for guidance and help. I also make authentic ' to-scale ' models as show pieces / souvenirs or gifts. My aim is to establish myself as a guide to all new aeromodellers in Mumbai and provide hobbiers with technical assistance in purchasing expensive radios / engines or advanced kits.
